or also just seize them. Not like renting is a legitimate income anyway, it's just a legal scam. they should be happy they get to keep whatever it is that they made up to that moment.

I think it be like "sewing" a tear in your jeans with staples. Free houses wouldn't solve homelessness because it isn't just economical. Many people are homeless because they aren't able to be autonomous (mental health). It also not solve the issues of homeless folks like food

An issue that generally goes unmentioned is how many of those houses are in locations utterly unliveable without a car - which homeless people generally do not have and proliferation of should not be encouraged.
