When I was doing my Physics BS I would often use my own "tricks" I thought I came up with to solve these intermediate steps in problems that I later learned where being taught in common core.

I was pretty bad at math in school. When I looked up Common Core it made SO much more sense. For some reason I never picked up any of those tricks.

I ate dicks taking all of those dogshit Bush era no child left behind standardized tests on account of mad ADHD so I always ended up in either the normal or even remedial classes. So once I started my physics program in college I had to catch myself up really quickly.
