    Can’t believe my ears. Met Police Assistant Comissioner says there is “a strong legal mandate” to operationalise facial recognition tech across London. This is not true! We are sorely lacking a national framework for law enforcement use of FR in the UK.

    But some worrying conclusions drawn by court re: right to privacy. E.g. biometric data deemed necessary for identification purposes. 500-page judgement to be published next week.

    3. Sections providing for collection of DNA and GPS are unconstitutional & are therefore null & void; 4. There is genuine risk of exclusion in / - if Kenyan govt wants to move forward, must first address issues of exclusion through clear regulatory framework

    In the case the Kenya High Court ruled that: 1. Huduma Namba can only proceed once a regulatory framework is in place; 2. The collection of DNA & GPS for purposes of identification is intrusive & unnecessary;

    1. Collection of DNA & GPS for purposes of identification is intrusive & unnecessary to the extent it is not authorized by anchoring legislation is unconstitutional 5(1)(g) & 5(1)(h)(a) requires collection of GPS & DNA - the same sub-sections conflict w/constitution & null/void

    This is extremely worrying - how can collection of such extensive biometric data be necessary and proportionate for identification? Reminder this includes fingerprints, hand geometry, earlobe geometry, retina and iris patterns, voice waves & DNA. 🤔🤔🤔

    This system could also have particularly damaging effects on marginalised groups e.g. as refugees & ethnic minority groups, who already face excessive scrutiny from Kenyan authorities & are required to provide additional info when registering for ID cards.

    This system is designed to collect comprehensive biometric data of all citizens, as well as foreign nationals within Kenya’s borders. Such data includes fingerprints, hand geometry, earlobe geometry, retina and iris patterns, voice waves, and DNA.

    Huduma Namba poses a massive risk to the right to privacy of citizens & foreign nationals living in the country. It’s difficult to see how it's necessary & proportionate for the entire population to have extensive personal data collected in order to access public services.

    Also, not to be petty, but Trump referred to Al Aqsa mosque to “Al Aqua mosque”.

    Robbing Palestinians of their basic human rights, their right of return, subjecting them to a system of institutionalized discrimination & denying them access to effective remedies for violations is NOT a “peace plan”.

    This so-called contravenes international law, but it does not change the legal obligations of Israel under IHL and IHRL, nor does it deprive Palestinians of protections under these legal regimes.

    This “deal of the century” will do nothing but further entrench decades of injustice, human rights violations and impunity in Israel and the OPT. It must be wholly rejected by the international community.

    Watching announce his “Middle East Peace Plan” aka which violates international law, while fawns over him elicits many emotions. But also important to remember one is facing impeachment & the other is facing indictment on corruption charges.
