My move from Santander to Monzo was completed today. It's worth it for app startup time alone.

Playing with Eleventy and new.css. It’s interesting how quickly you can build something functional. It’s also interesting to see the different approaches various SSGs take.

Love how my bank still sends me an email every month to let me know my latest “statement” is ready, as if my account isn’t just a continual stream of transactions.

While we’re at it, why do React, Vue, Svelte and all of the others need to exist? How have we got to 2020 with nothing like this being natively supported in browsers? If people want to reduce library clones (not to mention bundle size), bake it into the browser.

Why don’t browsers have native support/APIs for nice modals, modals with forms, nice drop downs, type-ahead, table paging, non-shitty datepickers, etc? Why does every website have to reinvent this stuff? Web development should be so much more efficient.

In case anyone is wondering, working full time, taking care of a one year old and then continuing to write code after the one year old has gone to bed... Not a sustainable situation.

Just imagine if Instagram actually allowed people to use paragraph breaks that weren’t some random character shoehorned in.

Maybe I’m bad at taking breaks cause I’m inexperienced at it...

I looked into much much it’d cost to turn my somewhat large tower into a mini-ITX system. That’s um... a little more than I expected. Motherboards for older CPUs aren’t nearly as cheap as I’d expect.

With Santander slashing interest rates (again), I've finally pulled the trigger and initiated a switch to Monzo. I'm looking forward to banking with a decent app and accidentally exposing lots of personal information when I inevitably end up playing with their API.

The baby is presumably asleep, but is doing this thing where she sounds like a guinea pig deflating very slowly. Apparently she’s old enough to have nightmares. I wonder what they could possibly be about...

I got my little side project working properly on Heroku ( Core in a container). The only problems I ran into involved SSL redirects and were solved by explicitly specififying port 443 and forwarding headers (X-Forwarded-Proto). Praise be to the internet.

Many people in big cities don't have cars. Many people in big cities don't have bikes. Many people in big cities can't walk 15 miles from one side of a city to the other. There's a reason public transport was invented. It wasn't luxury. Stop framing workers as a problem.
