It takes a staggering 12 litres of water to produce one almond grown in California – an area of severe water scarcity. Climate change will worsen already stressed water supplies. Everyone must have clean water to drink, no matter what the future brings.

On a train in Italy. A teenage Chinese boy boards the train. A woman comments loudly: “There you go, we are all going to be infected.” He replies in perfect Italian with a Roman inflection: “Ma’am, in my whole life I’ve seen China only on google maps.” Applauses.

Excellent piece on UK v US rationing. “The UK spends barely half what we do, covers everyone, rarely lets cost prove a barrier for people seeking care, and boasts health outcomes better than ours.” Which raises the Q: How do they do it?
