A stunning indictment of naturopathy from an insider perspective by @NaturoDiaries. "Naturopathy is an ideology. It is not a distinct form of primary care medicine. In fact, it is not any kind of medicine. It is pseudoscience." https://www.naturopathicdiaries.com/naturopathic-medicine-is-cowpie/ …pic.twitter.com/jevQf4MWKC

#Naturopathy is a form which assist the body in holistic healing (mind, body, and spirit). It is an umbrella term for more widely known and accepted therapies such as acupuncture, practitioner-led detoxification, herbs, nutritional counseling, stress reduction, and massage.

Conventional medicine encourages pill-popping, which cannot fully address issues such as depression and chronic stress. With neuropathy, a physician will unearth the root cause of the mental disorder and address it fully. This approach is vital in preventing debilitating symptoms

I think you mean “naturopathy” rather than “neuropathy” but I can’t be sure. Nevertheless, this is pseudoscientific rhetoric, especially with respect to the treatment of mental disorders. What exactly is the “root cause” of the mental disorder that naturopathy purports to treat?

Yes, this is #naturopathy, for e.g "I experience anxiety therefore I have a mental illness." Sorry, no. Anxiety is a natural response to emotional stress. Can anxiety alone be a mental disorder? Yes; if you allow it to consume you and don't address the root cause of the anxiety.

"I have depression therefore I am mentally ill." Sorry, no. Depression is a natural, introspective response to feeling down. Can depression alone be a mental disorder? Yes; if you allow it to consume you and don't address the root cause of the depression. #naturopathy

A naturopath on mental health and depression: don't let it "consume you" and "address the root cause". I'm going to screen shot this. A fine example of naturopath thinking/marketing. cc @StanKutcher @gorskon @DrJaiShah @DrJenGunter @NaturoDiaries @drninashapiro @jonathanstea

Thanks. Not only is @RangeayM’s description of the etiology of anxiety/depressive disorders terribly inaccurate and reflective of naturopathic/pseudoscientific rhetoric, it’s incredibly stigmatizing and harmful.

Natural also means diseased/chemical/neurons misfiring. Neuroscience and psychology are married, don’t have one without the other. Natural does not mean “less bad”. Ask Robin Williams widow, Lewy Body dementia’s natural too. But it wrecks the brain to death. Literally.
