I'm currently getting ready for my last day at @Blizzard_Ent and I wanted to get some thoughts out (so I can most of the crying done before I do my makeup). So, a thread:

I've been an employee of the IT Team (
#BlizzIT!) at@Blizzard_Ent my entire tenure, but I've been on a couple different teams. First I was on the Infrastructure Engineering team in BONS under@andynumber2 before the team got split out into specialized areas (Core, Cloud, etc.)Afficher cette discussion
While part of that team, I got to work with @ww on the infrastructure for @PlayOverwatch. The launch of Overwatch (and our Telemetry pipeline) was the proudest day of my career. Nothing else comes close. That was the day the best team I've ever worked on launched our product.

That project was our Telemetry pipeline, which I gave a couple talks about (one with
@cooper6581 and one with@webmakersteve) at@apachekafka Summit before I transitioned. That was the first time we had a near real time view of what the service quality experience was for players.Afficher cette discussion -
Someone (I forget who) had patches made for us after we launched. It felt like we were superheroes, taking a project that was struggling in January and having it be a resounding success by May. Ah, there go the tear ducts. Good, I needed that.pic.twitter.com/z7tnKhNfMc

I spent the next 2+ years with that group of engineers. New people came (
@cronym,@dogspinster,@ctide & others I'm forgetting) and some people left or went to other teams, but that core group remained together until 2018, and it was the best team I've ever worked on.Afficher cette discussion -
Companies, teams, and projects come and go - but really good teams, where everyone is working towards a singular goal and with a singular focus and where everyone on the team believes in what they're trying to achieve don't come that often. Cherish it when you have it.
