Back in April, endangered Sumatran orangutan Sekali gave birth to her second son at the Toronto Zoo.
This is the moment its mother got to hold him for the first time.

Nothing about this is heartwarming the baby should have been with the mother immediately without the zoos intervention. Furthermore they should re create a natural habitat not concrete and straw. Brutal.

Heartbreaking she had to give birth in what amounts to a concrete box. 💔 It's true some animals in captivity can't survive in the wild but they deserve to live in sanctuaries that create fully immersive & as natural habitats as possible. Not concrete/cement, straw & a cage.

Agree and she should have “held him the first time” as she birthed him instead of them immediately taking that newborn for their ridiculous zoo interventions. Toronto Zoo is awful.
