Jackfruit is a prized meal, but it can be hard to tell when they're ripe and ready to eat. These lion-tailed macaques in southern India have a crafty way of getting the tastiest morsels - stealing them from Malabar giant squirrels by slapping their face: buff.ly/3576dS6

It is not at all hard to tell when they are ripe and ready to eat. Looks like some misinformation.
The jackfruits give out such a strong fruity smell when they are ready that even humans can smell it from a long distance.

These monkeys must be filthy. I've sliced Jackfruit before, and when cut, it excretes and white substance comparable to glue that doesn't come off unless solvent is used. Can't imagine using my hands for weeks, collecting dirt and bacteria until it wears off.

So why the monkey doesn't know when it's ripe and has to count on the squirrel?
