🔙 On this day in 1812, civil engineer William Henry Barlow was born! 😍 Known for large scale engineering projects in the 19th century, he was responsible for the STUNNING train shed roof at St Pancras station, the largest in the world at the time. 📸 St Pancras roof, 1868

📢 We need you! 'Curating for Change' is a new project launching at the NRM and we're looking for local disabled, D/deaf, or neurodivergent people to join a focus group. The project aims to empower disabled people in museum curation. 👇 More information below!
Infographic for Curating for Change project at the National Railway Museum. The graphic reads:

Do you want to be involved in a new exhibition at the National Railway Museum in York?

The National Railway Museum is taking part in Curating for Change – a project run by Accentuate at Screen South. The project aims to empower disabled people in museum curation and create better representation of disabled, D/deaf, and neurodivergent stories in museums.

We are forming a focus group of disabled, D/deaf and neurodivergent people from the local community. The ideas and information shared in the group will help with the exhibition project and help shape how the museum operates in the future.

The group will meet at the museum once a week for six weeks, but don't worry if you can't make every session!

For more information on the project, contact Amy Thraves-Connor:

🦆 I'm sure you've all heard the tragic and concerning news that Long Boi is missing from ! On behalf of NRM, Mallard has something it would like to say, from one duck to another. We hope Long Boi is found safe and well, and stands tall for years to come💙 #LongBoi

🔙 #OnThisDay 27 years ago, GNER took over the running of the East Coast route from British Rail. 🤩 Of course, the best legacy they left is this WONDERFUL collection item on display in North Shed: 🍔 The packaging from the final microwaved burger served on GNER.

🥳 Today, we're at to celebrate Leonard Raisbeck's 250th birthday. 🛤️ He was a railway pioneer and was influential in suggesting a railway should connect Stockton and Darlington, not a canal. 📜 To mark this day, we have released his full archive on our website.

🚆 It's been a busy couple of days at as APT-E has been brought out of the museum, reconfigured, and shunted back into place. We want to say a HUGE well done to our rail ops team and specialist external contractors who have completed this massive task!
