Your transparency and honesty means a lot. People harp on about this “best person for the role” etc. but that only works if we have an equal system where LGBTQIA+ artists aren’t consistently undermined, or even denied access to those career paths in the first place.

As a producer I’m always aware that being able to tell stories is a privilege, and authenticity is key to countering exploitation. Queer stories deserves authentically queer retellings, it’s really that simple. The process and the art will be better for it.

This is a good way to view it. Playing a character who happens to be not straight is one thing. Playing a character that serves as an LGBTQ+ story or narrative can take away from actual queer artists. You rock dude

I think the most important thing here is more investnent + opportunities for all underrepresented folks, with equal opportunity to fail & make mistakes. Sometimes people take these so they can work. Once we have more work, it'll be easier for people to not take other's space.
