  As a Canadian, we were taught that we successfully prevented the US takeover of Canada, which was then still a British colony, but that nobody "won" - the post-war borders were the same as they were before.

  I always thought the war of 1812 was the British trying to take back some valuable parts of the USA, but failing to do so. I don't really know who to believe anymore..
