      You need to learn English and it’s original word meanings (then try and get to their root words in other languages, and use appropriately). Let me guess... you’re a product of public schooling?

      I don't need to do all of that to know that "recompense " means to make amends or compensate for harm or damage done. And you guessed wrong.

      You need to do all that to figure out that recompense’s original (and etymologically correct) meaning is: “to punish or reward appropriately for an action.”
