...In the moment, this could've gone either way. But I was confident in my sources and my reporting. And I was right. She claimed it was untrue but her lawyer confirmed it and she never challenged the story. Had she succeeded, Brexit may not have happened.

A story about a politician beating his wife would've taken Farage off the campaign trail, or significantly marred his impact. I sat, with butterflies, as our reporting was read out on a national radio station. And Evans was challenged on it.

By the end of the interview her political career was completely over. A few months later, we would win the Brexit referendum. And the people –– who claimed to be pro-Brexit and that Evans worked with behind the scenes to take Nigel out –– didn't even throw a Brexit night party.
