Early 'models' regarding hospitalization rate and mortality were based on numbers from China and Europe. It's possible that the mortality is so low in the US is the medical expertise and learned treatments, despite low supplies & tests at the beginning of the outbreak.

But it does give context to the people screaming that we've done terribly compared to other countries. That we have more deaths than any country. These numbers, although from poorer health care areas, show we've done pretty good in comparison.
