This is standard practice. It's called triage. It's malpractice to let two people die if you could have saved one of them. Given unlimited resources, this doesn't happen. I've declared people dead because of this, more than once. Welcome to Emergency Medicine

I get it, most people think Grey's Anatomy or Chicago Fire is an accurate portrayal. My wife runs a hospital, they are laying people off, they are at 25% capacity. They are worried about going under from not having patients. That's the reality for 80% of hospitals
