1/ I went to the shop today. I have some thoughts on it. I never thought such a simple outing could cause so much reflection but so alien an experience it was, I have to jot some notes down and you get to read them:

3/ It was a beautiful afternoon. Around 65-70F on Capitol Hill. I made the mistake of wearing my quilted Barbour jacket. People noticed. Especially when I was lugging heavy bags home from the Trader Joes.

4/ Speaking of Trader Joes. They had a “one in one out” policy. It was far more pleasant to be in the store like this. No bumping into each other’s trollies (carts) and no one reaching over me to grab the Organic Matcha-Infused Whole Wheat Tofurky Burgers or whatever.

5/ It was also wonderful to see people being polite. It’s almost like the city has turned into the best version of itself. Camaraderie abounds. Prejudice and suspicion have fallen away.

6/ More than not, cities are hostile places by design. Capitol Hill was like a small community today. There’s no great moral to this story. Except that maybe many are getting a break they desperately needed. In amongst the horror, silver linings.

Completely agree. I am not only finding kindness out there but I am encountering more men in the grocery store

Same experience in a small town in the Czech Republic. Totally distant experience from what is being cannoned to us from media. But the government should learn more from its US ally and take a lesson of leadership
