I’m at the hospital now, trying to get tested. I won’t say where (yet) but upon entry they looked very disturbed (I walked in with a face mask as instructed by DoH on phone yday). They’ve taken my ID and put me alone in a side room in the Emergency area. Now I wait.

I do wonder what they’re doing with the pens they’re giving to me to sign stuff. I hope they’re sterilised between patient use.

Some silly replies to this thread so far, including: - “You dont have a fever, why get tested?” (I had a fever from Weds-Fri and have been artificially keeping it down) - “Why go to the ER!?” (That’s what health officials told me to do yday) As if I’d WANT to be here

Doctor just came in. Checked my breathing, heart rate, and ran through a bunch of questions with me. She says I look good (natch
) and indicated it was the correct thing for me as someone with community exposure to a carrier to get checked.
She’s now ordering a chest X-ray.Show this thread -
Ok finally a new update. Another nice nurse (they’re all so explanatory and polite) came and took two vials of my blood and swabbed in my nostrils and on my throat. I also now have a spiffy gown on because my shirt buttons were apparently going to interfere with the X-ray.

It’s been a long time since I’ve been in a hospital so I’m easily impressed right now. For an X-ray they just wheeled this Samsung machine to my room and put a board behind me and snapped a picture. I thought it was going to be a whole ordeal but this was quick and easy.

They just came in and told me I don’t have strep! They’re eliminating things one by one I guess.

Oh and they gave me a spiffy new mask. I’m smiling behind it, I swear.pic.twitter.com/hlNqpKfYYp

Still at the hospital! Test results just came back and said I tested NEGATIVE for the flu! Even though I’ve had flu symptoms for a week now. Could be another virus, they said. BUT Dept of Health has approved me for coronavirus testing. Happening shortly. I’ll let you know more.

Just so the above is clear: I tested negative for normal flu. Not for coronavirus. That’s why they’re testing for that next. Because I shouldn’t have had flu symptoms if I didn’t have the flu. Duh.

Got the customary, “And how will you be paying, sir?” from one of the attendants who had to come in in full gear to ask me. I’m no NHS fan but it’s still jarring to get the $$$ shakedown while on the bed in a gown

Ok, so they came back and did another throat swab and nostril swab which they then send away. That’s the COVID-19 test. They’ve discharged me and told me I should have results within 72 hours from Dept of Health. I have been advised to self quarantine in the time being.

Some interesting notes: 1. I was the doctor’s first COVID-19 test. She said she’ll “always remember me” for it. Lol. 2. The procedures are clearly still v new for staff but they did a great job. 3. The test time is way longer than originally thought (hours is actually days).
