Instead of salty tweet I thought I would explain calmly why I think HS has become less skill intensive, complete with ugly visuals. Let's start with what separates the great players from the absolute best players in my view:pic.twitter.com/Q6WxdL584Y

To properly take into consideration your opponent's deck, you need to know 1) What they can play; and 2) What their win condition is. I remember facing elite players and thinking every turn was a nightmare because they made sure I never had a good play available to me.pic.twitter.com/IpiXYuwUYZ

Thanks to Lackeys, DQ Alexstraza and so many other randomly generated cards, it's very common now that your opponent will have multiple generated cards in hand, which means you can't play around it and just say "fuck it" and revert back to just playing your deck optimally.pic.twitter.com/TXv5hYKPPG

Since the power turns are so swingy, it's also impossible in many cases to prepare for your opponent power turn. There's nothing my DH can do vs turn 5 Mountseller + 4 spells. There's nothing I can do with Rogue vs a turn 3 Glowfly. So you just hope your opponents don't have it.pic.twitter.com/NhUDk7qSM9

On top of that, every deck's win con is now "do broken stuff on board and kill your opponent before they kill you", which is less skill intensive than trying to Control a midrange deck or gauging when to draw and when to remove with classic Combo decks.pic.twitter.com/R1pIU5g6Vt

I think the last point is the least discussed but it's truly important. Being able to identify different win conditions and switch from one another during a game is what used to make great players, but now you almost always have just one game plan anyway.

People argue it's meta-specific but I see a trend towards increased power level, and increase power level will always have a tendency to crowd out Control and draw-your-deck combo decks and lead to "just do your broken stuff first" kind of gameplay.

P.S. "But in previous meta people were also complaining". Sure, they were. But remember we use to complain that Firelands Portal was too random and swingy. Compare it with what we have now, and I think it's reasonable to say Firelands would be fine by today's standards.

It does feel like the Karazhan meta again but on steroids. Back then it was just Firelands Portal, and of shaman rolled spell power totem or 3/4 totem from Tuskar Totemic! We complained then and moved into the raw power of Ungoro and Frozen throne which was probably better

I have very fond memories of Un'Goro. Control Pally was just a good deck. No mana cheating, no crazy Shenanigans. Just a well balanced deck with resources you had to manage carefully.

Yeah, old gods/Kara was when I really started diving into the game but Ungoro was when I felt I started to get better as it was easier to prepare for opponents turns etc. I’m not against a power spike if there’s less RNG or at least controlled/Ranged RNG
