I don’t know if they do themselves, but I’ve heard people refer to it as that, often in a mocking way. The media also occasionally refer to Sunderland vs Middlesbrough as the A19 derby, which is ridiculous, partly because it’s barely a derby in the first place.
That’s probably because the Tees-Wear (or Wear-Tees) Derby sounds even worse! And yeah, I don’t think either Newcastle or Sunderland see Boro as Derby material! Reminds me of a verse in the Geordie Bible ‘And on the 8th day god took the piss and build Middlesbrough’
