You ever find it ironic we complain that an esport's meta is stale after a month, yet we still love to play and/or watch baseball or hockey which barely changed in decades? There are also games that don't have nearly as much variation (RL, CS:GO) and yet are still super popular.

Not sure about other sports but back when I was following soccer sometimes the "meta" was to play super defensively and people were complaining about it. Then "the meta shifted" and teams started to play for ball possession, and some people were also complaining about it :D
I think a lot of it is that people don’t talk about traditional sports tactics as ‘meta’ so they don’t relate the 2 things
