15yrs. While I know a lot of people who've had concerning experiences online, rarely did they result in irl concerns. There's a lot to be said for being cautious, but a lot to be said for how wonderful online friends can be, too. Can I ask what point you're trying to prove?
Trying to prove a point to my parents: Like if you've met amazing friends online that didnt turn out to be creeps or stalkers. RT if you've met them in person and they were exactly who they said they were. Bonus: comment how much time you've been in an online community

Both my parents basically assume that every person online is out to get me and that I shouldn't be doing what I do which I absolutely love tho. They seem to assume that the few bad stories that reach the news about online interaction correlate to the entirety of the internet.

While my parents can't control what I do (I mean I'm 20 xD) it is quite frustrating that they have to go out of their way to explain every negative scenario when I just want animate and complete chorus entries and be proud of what I do

My sister met her current husband while playing World of Warcraft. It took a couple years, but he proposed. And now they are the happy parents of a set of fraternal twins. Happiness can be found online. But it’s a parents job to worry and sometimes with good reason.

I'm 43. For 20 years I've been in dozens of different communities and have met hundreds of people I would call friends. Granted there have been the occasional weird encounters, but you get that in real life too. At least internet weirdos can't follow you out to your car!

All my closest friends I met online. I was best friends with one I met 5-6years ago and we worked as a team in every mmo we played, we did duo in PvP together. Fast forward to today we have been dating 2 years, see eachother every weekend and it’s the happiest I’ve ever been.
