Many of the top DIY and craft channels are predominantly female. Of course, there are also predominately male craft channels that use mediums that might be considered more female-aimed or colorful.
@YouTube @TeamYouTube Dear YouTube,
I am concerned about the new rules regarding content that is considered appealing to kids. This category is very broad, and is discriminatory towards female creators and "geeks" in general.

There are also craft and DIY channels that are neither/both. All of these channels are still in danger of falling victim to this broad category when they are not necessarily targeting their channels towards children.

Many of male DIYers use materials such as metal, wood, and heavy machinery. These channels will not be impacted because their materials are not considered to be “childish”.

This goes back to the idea of “female” dominated careers making significantly less than “male” dominated careers. Or even females within the same career earning less than males in the same domain.

Furthermore, a lot of what would be under this category are not necessarily child content. Arts, crafts, DIYs, and even toy customizations are not exclusively child content and should not be considered as such JUST because they are playful, colorful, and/or have characters.

I urge you to reconsider finer arts, crafts, and customizations as ART and educational for all ages. The manner in which content is presented should be more important than the item itself.

Yes, a Squishy can be played with, but it can also be turned into a new work of art. Yes, a craft kit review can be played with by children, but it can also be a great way for consumers to know how to save their money.

Yes, dolls can be played with, but doll customization is also transformative art and expression. The MANNER in which the content is presented should matter more than what is on the screen. Please, do not put all creators in the same boat.

Where does the line cross over from geek fandom celebration to child-appealing? Context and presentation matter, not just the subject.

Please consider the artists, crafters, and DIYers, male and female alike, who would suffer from the prejudice that their talents and passions are considered “childish”. Sincerely, All DIYers, Crafters, Artists, and Everyone Who Views Their Content.
