Social democracy is the closest I suppose. There doesn't need to be a cohesive concept around individual policy initiatives though. They can just be what they are.

Ok, but what happens when a word is commonly used to mean something different than what it originally meant? For example, “liberal” in the United States?

Then the meaning of the word changes or is augmented, because words only have meaning by convention, not because someone self important, or even the dictionary, declares it to be so. But Tom is too rigid to acknowledge this irrefutable fact.

I think AOC and Bernie are actual socialists which is why they are damaging for democrats. At the same time, Democrats are probably afraid to push back because people are ignorant about things.

Of course Scandinavian countries are not socialist, and Marx himself wouldn't have thought so either. But to say that socialism is by definition confined to state ownership of the means is disingenuous
