But what about in primaries, which is what the original post was about?
I looked at the paper you cited, and it includes "We find campaigns are able to have meaningful persuasive effects in primary and ballot measure campaigns, when partisan cues are not present." So for primary elections, we keep canvassing.
My anecdotal evidence suggests this is true. Door knocking (canvassing) resulted in little joy, but phone banking undecideds was much more fruitful.
No it's not, that's a reckless and terrible take. People need to directly talk to their neighbors
One thing I will never understand is that none of the canvassing groups where I live do registration! They claim “we only canvass registered voters”, but people move, or one spouse is reg’d & the other isn’t. Boggles my mind! Can’t they at least hand out forms & envelopes?
Door knocking is definitely more of a state and municipal level tactic. But then I've never had someone knock my door for a federal race.
