One of the biggest barriers to ppl getting the HPV jab is the thought that they're monogamous and low risk for HPV. While it is true that those with > sexual partners are at a higher risk for HPV than those with fewer partners, those in monogamous relationships aren't immune. 3/7

Likewise, we see the claim that younger individuals don't need the vaccine because they're at low risk of dying from covid. Again, true in the sense that they are less likely to die and experience severe complications than the old, but they are by no means immune. 4/7

When addressing covid vaccine hesitancy, we should be looking toward HPV vaccine hesitancy to help us predict what is coming and what will calm fears. 5/7

Reproductive age women should feel comfortable talking about their normal cycles, for example, so that we aren't flooded only with uncorroborated horror stories. 6/7

Of course, these positive outcomes are also just anecdotal. But it helps to normalize vaccination among a population when we talk about how members of that population had the vaccine and then NOTHING HAPPENED. Don't let the scary stories be all we see online. 7/7
