I’m afraid to add up all the money I’ve spent buying/replacing earbuds and airpods because I’d almost certainly have to move to a cabin in the woods and live off the grid.

Buy a case and attach it to your keychain. I promise it helps.
I did that! This time I lost my right airpod and I had to replace just that one, which cost $69.
