Yeah, I’m surprised the article didn’t mention that UUs have been doing this for quite awhile. A raft of scientists, humanists, transcendentalists, abolitionists, agnostics, & atheists have clung to Unitarianism & Universalism for over a couple hundred years.

Such churches are in lots of places but they're usually UU. We even have one here in the sticks (northern MI). For those who want the fellowship without magical thinking.
