I was very fortunate: I could go into a field like journalism because I finished school with modest debt, thanks to scholarships and a thing called the Texas Tomorrow Fund, which my dad paid off for me and my brother by collecting cans and bottles throughout our childhood.
I read this and thought, “Did he go to high school in Texas?” (Obviously the pecans were a little bit of a tip off, but it all rang familiar.) And yep! I’m from Liberty, an hour away.
