If it's not the focal point why end on that? Most Americans only remember the last statement of a news story. Why not end with a quote about why she's protesting? The last statement of a news story either in print or on the radio is the punctuation mark that defines the story.
As a writer I care a great deal about the ending, but sadly, if you look at audience stats, most readers online never make it that far. And in breaking news situations, stories often just end where they end; it's different from feature writing in that way.
