The situation did interrupt tourists' visits on what is probably the park's busiest day. Why is that not a fair point to include? It's certainly not the focal point of the story.

If it's not the focal point why end on that? Most Americans only remember the last statement of a news story. Why not end with a quote about why she's protesting? The last statement of a news story either in print or on the radio is the punctuation mark that defines the story.

Because the role of the story is not to do advocacy for her cause. The reasons for the protests are included at some length. While the end of the story matters, it doesn't define it, and again, I don't see why the visitor element is unimportant.
