The problem is that Teva's TDF/FTC is not that much less expensive than Truvada ($1,455 vs ~$2,000). The reason? @GileadSciences and @tevapharm entered into a confidential settlement that allowed *ONLY* Teva to be the sole supplier of generic TDF/FTC for six months.

Prices should be expected to drop pretty dramatically once there are multiple generics in the market (7 are already FDA approved), but in the mean time, there is a co-pay card for Teva's generic Truvada. https://www.tevahivgenerics.com/truvada-generic/savings …
