@KurtBusiek@RVAwonk And the $7.25/hour people believe the $725/hour people can't afford to pay more than $7.25 per hour.

One minor correction:"Wages for the top 1%" should read "Unearned income for the top 1%"

The average CEO made more than most of us before lunchtime on 1 January.
-
Walmart's CEO made 1,076 times as much as the company's median worker. In other words, it would take 11 such employees nearly a century to earn what the CEO made in 2018. It would take 100 such employees more than a decade.

I’ve been a union member for 15+ years. I wouldn’t have it any other way. Unions work!
-
They absolutely do! My husband is a Symphony musician and without the union he wouldn’t make a living wage, have healthcare or a retirement. My grandfather taught himself the plumbing trade then joined the union and was the president of his union before retiring. Unions work!

The gutting of unions and their ability to counter corporate power has been a top priority of business for generations. They did it, and this is the result. There is no counterbalance to the C-Suite grabbing the entire pie.
-
Certain shareholders can provide that counterbalance to some extent, which is why my retirement account is in socially responsible funds.
