I can't believe (but, you know, I can) that our nation's Serious Thinkers have gotten to sex reparations for white guys before actual reparations for black folks.

Well, when I read Douthat, he seemed to be more calling for robots to fulfill the reparations than actual human women... but it sure was weird.

I'm still pretty dumbfounded by the argument that there's a universal right to sex or that we're supposed to be taking this argument seriously.

The incels (is that what they're called?) are really, really disturbing. Apparently buying sex does not quench their anger, either (or so the recommended comments on D. say)

People used to just make fun of them, but apparently there's a violent faction, too. Either way, I don't think it's a "philosophy" that is worth valid consideration.

I hate to defend D., but I think he was trying to find a way to neutralize them rather than agreeing that their philosophy makes sense?

I think he's way off base by saying some of the demands need to be satisfied, and more so saying this in a NYT op-ed. I don't see how an incel is an oppressed person.

Well, I think his view is closest to this: 'our widespread isolation and unhappiness and sterility might be dealt with by reviving or adapting older ideas about the virtues of monogamy and chastity and permanence and the special respect owed to the celibate.' (1/2)

I think that's right. I'm just sort of surprised he's engaging even as much and as gently as he is.

I mean, also, the full answer to these incel dudes is "Women are people," and if they need an answer rooted in law rather than morality, it's "The 13th Amendment."
