Dear Senators, On behalf of Cecile Hansen, chairwoman of the Duwamish Tribal Council, I urge you to pass Senate Bill 6262 with amendments. The words “federally recognized” should be removed. If not, Seattle schools will continue to exclude the Duwamish from history lessons. 2/3

Visiting the Duwamish Long House and Cultural Center anytime between Tuesday to Saturday 10 am to 5 pm is a great way to learn more about the Duwamish Tribe and how you can provide support. We look forwarding to meeting you!

I grew up on Duwamish land -->>The Duwamish people were here first. Should Seattleites pay them rent? ?

To help right the wrongs of history, thousands of people are paying rent each month to the Duwamish Tribe, writes columnist Naomi Ishisaka. It’s a small drop in the sea of debt owed to the Duwamish and other Native people in the U.S., but it’s a start.

I just paid some rent to the Duwamish tribe. They were here before us and have been cheated out of their land and rights for far too long.
