I've been seeing reactions from all over. It is a huge sigh of relief. I have been panicked deeply about how the rest of the world viewed us and how much trust was lost. I don't think we would've come out ok after 8 years. For sure a win - in so many ways.

It should take years, possibly decades, to heal the division. As Egon Bahr of West Germany has written in 1963 on the divided Germany, the reunification is not an event but a historical process. But this is the first step we, both the Americans and those around the world, need.
