Elon Musk sent me an email last week. In it, he accused a British cave rescuer of being "a child rapist" who took a "12-year-old bride." He didn't provide any evidence of those claims. He also called me a "fucking asshole."https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/ryanmac/elon-musk-thai-cave-rescuer-accusations-buzzfeed-email …

This was his first email to me after I asked him twice for comment on a legal threat from the rescuer's lawyer. He prefaced the email with "off the record" though I did not agree to that condition. Off the record is a two-party agreement.pic.twitter.com/szknfOMg0s

Publishing private emails is a two-party agreement as well. This just shows why you cannot be trusted as a source.

This is obviously a private email, this was posted as an attempt to discredit him.

There's no law saying someone can't publish an email another person sent. If you want something to be off the record you need to get an agreement from the journalist for that, or go talk to somebody who will agree to it. This is journalism 101.

I studied journalism. I understand that. This is still obviously private email, I’m not pointing out that he said it was off-record, you can tell the journalist little ego was hurt and that’s why Buzzfeed decided to run the story in an attempt to hurt Elon Musk reputation.

I think Buzzfeed decided to run the story because the CEO of a major company publicly attacking a man as a pedophile without evidence is newsworthy. If I'm an investor in Tesla I think I'd like to know if the CEO is acting out bizarre paranoid vendettas.

True, but give Buzzfeed credibility as a source I highly doubt that was their only motive, and even if he is not providing any information do you think someone with such a highly status as Elon will just say this things because he has a personal vendetta?

I mean, yes I do think he would say that. He said it immediately after the rescue with no backup for his claims. If he had actual evidence the man is a pedophile he should bring it to the authorities. What exactly is your issue with Buzzfeed as a source?
