This is interesting. I’m not sure I ever understood having to give your earnings made honestly to your employer. Who feels right about being essentially taxed multiple times for money they worked hard to make? Interested to hear reasoning. Agree w reporting conflict of interest.

As I see it: Policy exists & they have to follow rules & report. If they don't like it, then, via UC faculty governance, they can work to have it modified or seek job elsewhere (even go 100% private practice). (Also, article doesn't cover UC resources used in earning that income)

I remember @ UCLA when a Ped subspecialist & his wife went on a fancy trip to Australia courtesy of Sandoz pharmaceuticals. Those days are gone. However, there is still a gravy train and reflects poorly on the rest of us, who don’t shill for “big Pharma“ for thousands of dollars.

Exactly! Policies not always clear, but ignoring/playing dumb (as story suggests some did)? Gimme a break. If in doubt, ask admin. Funny for me to read that story after recently being told my latest UC fin. reporting docs had unrelated details (in good, thorough way).
