Yes, the industry is creating that demand, but the language we use is also exacerbating the issue. Just please be mindful. Animating is a totally different skillset to boarding and both go by different pay rates. Calling rough animation a storyboard redefines the expectation.

Boards are still images that can be timed. Animatics are slightly more developed with some indication of movement. If its on 2s, yeah thats rough animation, not boards at all

I find animatics like these to be incredibly pointless, and an absolute waste of resources and budget. Scenes always get rewritten & changed. Figuring how a character movies, that's the animator's job. The timing, the editors' job. The camera movement, the cinematographer's job.

I don’t really know much about this so I’m looking for some clarification. Are you saying storyboarders ‘should’ be paid more than animators?

No. If a storyboarder is tasked to animate, they should be paid the same amount as an animator would for the same work.
