It is easy to make fun of young Chestertonian men for smoking and drinking - and if these are mere affectations, perhaps such ridicule is justified. But what if instead these practises are really symptomatic of a wisdom their elders lack?

My generation’s attempts to turn smoking and drinking into moral issues while pushing infanticide and depravity of all sorts can only make us look hypocritical and absurd to those who do not share our history - like immoral puritans. Their pints and pipes thus symbolise sanity.
