Our goal is both to maintain consistency across all public surfaces on YouTube (we already abbreviate in many places), and to address creator concerns about stress/wellbeing, specifically around tracking public sub counts in real time. More on this: https://yt.be/help/LF4J

No it isn’t — this change is so unnecessary, why not focus on helping smaller channels grow or fixing your copyright system or the other issues with YT? But no, we get abbreviated subscriber counts, yippee!
