Fact of the Day: The M3 Stuart (Small Tactical Ultra Agile Recce Tank) light tank is so light its crew can carry it to save fuel. Playful soldiers would often lift them & turn them around while the crew slept inside so that when the crew woke up they faced the wrong way #TankGeekpic.twitter.com/eSSAlnzaTk

worth noting in order to save weight, that tank did not have a reverse gear either.

I believe they were often air-dropped from airships into battle.

They tried that once...but a light breeze blew the tanks where they came from.

If I’m mistaken, that’s a rare photo of the A11 flying tank pre the mod to fit it with a gatling gun

the M3 Stuart was developed as a direct result of the "bouncing bomb" project, and was famous for being able to bounce over enemy gunfire and still deliver a rapid fire response from its 155mm howitzer.

What is stunning about this is how stable the Canberra can be at ball-scuffing, low-level flight. 👏👏👏
