Hi Ruth, This is a Runwayboat, which is basically a runway built on top of airplane garage boat. The F22 jets are still in the garage part of the boat and only go on to the runway part of the boat when pilots need to get home for the weekend.

To save fuel it's built where it needs to be after being transported in sections via air.

It’s actually a Q-Ship, HMS Illustration. Using a deception technique first developed in WW2 it employs a 950’ long canvas screen stretched on a wooden frame, attached to a now redundant cross channel ferry. It can cope with winds up to 7 knots.

By leaving them in the garage it prevents them getting rusty.
