My understanding was that it was originally meant to be a Netball sequence in that movie, not beach Volley Ball but Cruise was jealous of Kilmer being GA (goal attack)...

The Concorde was significantly faster than the F-15, even without using its Rolls-Royce Olympics engine afterburner flames. All whilst serving lobster and champagne to its 743 passengers. The only non-military plane that could keep up was the military version of the Canberra.
