There was a USAF/CIA program where they actually stripped out some C-130s and managed to land them on aircraft carrier decks. I think they needed small booster rockets in order to take off again, though.

I think that was the C-130D. The C-130E was the plug-in electric version, vs the C-130H hybrid. The current C-130J runs on Juice, which was the renewable idea but then they worked out it used about the most expensive liquid commonly available, short of the RAF C-130K (Kia-Ora).
