Fact of the Day: Due to a printing error in the build instructions for the B29 fighter jet, engines were fitted the wrong way round, this meant it could only fly backwards. To avoid collisions the tail and wings were painted red to warn other pilots that it was reversing #AvGeekpic.twitter.com/1Sh5Fo5hGG

They sounded like a council bin lorry reversing.

I bet someone at the factory got in trouble for that.

They really should have put the cockpit at the front end though!

That’s why they raised it, so they could see forwards, obviously

I read that the B-29s song Rock Lobster was inspired by the paint scheme! Is this true?

It’s amazing that the B29 led to development of the Harrier that had jets fitted at the front and back so they counteracted each other allowing the aircraft to hover !pic.twitter.com/9qIgPAKdpI

Ah yes the push me pull you. that project never really got off the ground, which was a pity as that is exactly what it was intended to do!

I believe it wasn’t so much a printing error, but when they were faxing the blueprints through one page got turned upside down and no one noticed. Because which of us hasn’t had a moment of doubt about which way to position paper on a fax machine or scanner?

True fact, the stealth bomber was designed accidentally when a page was faxed face down, rather than face up.

With the paint job it would be fairly easy to sell on to @easyJet once their useful military life ended
