I believe that an alternative method of launching was to throw the boat hard astern?

Must be a bit of a chore to repaint the runway number every time the ship changes heading.

Those ships do not change heading. They all travel on their fixed course, assigned at build, and the Navy simply launches from whichever vessel happens to be in the right orientation for the prevailing wind.

The Boat Loaded Inflatable Maritime Patrol Strategy was pioneered by Germany by accident in 1908. The Kaiser, inspecting the capital ship 'Pumpernickel Von Sinkpoppin', tripped & got a Zeppelin rope caught on his helmet spike dragging it to sea. #WankypediaFact
