Dont know if you have the same expression, but over here in Sweden there is a new saying re: social media that translates into something like:
" I don't care if that's not true, it's still fucked up!"

I put it down to the convenience of social media. People who don't have the intelligence to buy a newspaper or join a library can easily access YouTube and Twitter
Not sure it takes intelligence to buy a newspaper, John. Also not sure they impart much in the way of critical thinking skills.
