True. I once read that the underwing F-14, prior to being dropped, also provided additional power to make the mighty B-29 supersonic.

Except they only had one under the right wing, so the B-29 went supersonic in a huge left turn.

Fun fact: that orange and white livery was the paint scheme applied to the aircraft of 31 Sqn AKA ‘The contraflows’ who were sent on detachment to RAF Watford Gap on the M5 near Ashby de la Zouch.
