Meet the Team: SAC Dale E Windup loads £1 coins into the electricity meter for the F14s Passive Advanced Radar Projector during the preflight checks. It costs just £3000 per hour for the pilot to PARP as often as they want. #AvGeek #RAFLutonpic.twitter.com/0U037717RV

Surely they should have updated it with a contactless card reader by now?

Of course people also forget the coins are used to weigh the nose down so the nose does not raise and the tail squat on its butt while taxiing to the active runway.

How quickly did that model have to flap the little curvy wings in order to achieve its vertical take-off mode? And is it true that just like a Sopwith Camel it could only turn quickly in one direction (at least until they fitted the special hinges to the nose cone)?

Clever mechanics attach a string to a £1 coin. Then the same coin can be used 3000 times and you have money for beer instead. Trust me, we have the same meters at NASA, and it works all the time. 🚀💰🍺 PULL BACK THAT COIN!

Not only clever financially, but avoids forward C of G that might exceed elevator authority.

Have seen airial refueling, USB tethering and sorts. Wonder how they fill this with coins when a mission is extended and the meter runs down. 😂 😂 😂

You sure it was aerial refueling and not just streaming 1 pound coins down the 'toob' and topping up the meter with fresh coins? 😉
